The high-rise nozzle is basically a pipe with a bend, featuring a two and half-inch shut off and a nozzle tip. The advantage of high-rise nozzle deployment is that it can knock down the fire from a floor below the fire floor - a remote location that minimizes the possibility for injury. This is a video from the live burns conducted at Governors Island. The top corner window in the video shows the view from a camera installed in the public hallway (90 feet away from the fire location). As soon as the firefighters deployed the high-rise nozzle, the blowtorching fire in the public hallway was extinguished in a matter of seconds.
